Modern Reef P- (PO4 Remover) is a liquid preparation based on lanthanum chloride, designed to quickly and efficiently reduce phosphate levels in saltwater aquariums.
How it works?
The product precipitates phosphates, turning them into insoluble solids. Unlike standard GFOs (iron oxide) media, P- it works almost instantly and is extremely economical.
Dosage and Application
- Standard dose: 0.1 ml of the product in 100 liter of aquarium water lowers the PO4 level by 0.01 mg/l.
- Maximum drop: Do not lower phosphates by more than 0.02 mg/l per day, to avoid stressing the corals.
- Method of addition: It is strongly recommended that dosing be done directly into skimmer or in an area of high water flow just before mechanical filtration (filter socks or roller filter). This helps get the sludge out of the system right away.
Important safety tips
- Monitor alkalinity (KH): Lanthanum chloride can slightly lower KH. Check levels more frequently during treatment.
- Avoid “zero” levels: Never remove the phosphates until 0.00, as this can lead to coral starvation or the emergence of dinoflagellates. Aim at levels between 0.02 and 0.08 mg/l.
- Muddy water: If the water in the aquarium becomes cloudy, stop dosing - this is a sign of too much or too rapid sedimentation.
- Sensitive residents: Some fish (like the Tangs of the genus Zebrasoma) may be sensitive to lanthanum particles, therefore, good mechanical filtration is a must.
